Hyundai KONA Electric Car Launched in India at ₹25.30 Lakh

Electric Vehicles are making noise for quite some time now and finally, India gets it real EV in the form of Hyundai KONA. The KONA EV has first launched in South Korea in the first half of 2018 and one by one in other markets worldwide afterward.

Hyundai India officially announced the launched of KONA Electric Vehicle or KONA EV in India for ₹25.30 Lakh (ex-showroom) for dual-tone paint. Initially, the EV will come to India through CBU (Completely Built Units) but later it can be assembled at Hyundai's Chennai plant. The company is also planning to source EV components locally to reduce costs.

The KONA will be retailing through selected 15 dealers from 11 cities in India provided necessary EV infrastructure and support. The numbers could be improved if there is enough demand.

The Hyundai KONA EV gets a 39.2 kWh battery pack which has an all-electric ARAI certified mileage of 452 km in single full charge. The KONA EV makes 0-100 kmph in 9.7 seconds at pick power of 134.13 bhp and 395 Nm. To recharge the batteries users will have two options the first, 3-pin socket and second is a 7kWh AC Wall Box Charger.

The EV can be charged in 6hrs by using the 7kWh charger and can be topped up for a range of 50 km under 1 hour. With a portable charger, uses can get a range of 50 km in under 3 hours. The KONA EV also supports DC fast charger, which can charge the EV up to 80% in just 57 minutes.

In terms of features, the Hyundai KONA EV is right up there with standards and loaded with features like 17.7 cm floating infotainment touchscreen which adds support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, heated and ventilated seats, sunroof and much more.

As far as safety is concerned the KONA comes with six airbags, ABS with EBD, blind spot detection, reverse camera TPMS, hill-starts assist, etc. There are four driving modes - Eco, Eco Plus, Comfort and Sport.

The KONA EV gets 3 years/ unlimited kilometers vehicle warranty and 3 years / 160,000 kilometers battery warranty. The company will install fast chargers in all-electric selling dealerships and there will be KONA Electric support vehicles in select cities for emergency charging. To display compatible charging stations in websites and app the company has partnered with Map India. The company has also partnered with IOCL to install chargers at select fuel pumps across India.
